These vessels were formed by pressing clay against the surface of a single boulder outside my studio in Clarksburg, Ontario. Each carries not only the trace of the stone it touched but also the hollows, cavities, and negative spaces left behind by the act of contact. The earth became both collaborator and archive, recording the dialogue between surface and form.
Just as the clay retains the mark of the rock, we too are shaped by the places we inhabit and the experiences we encounter. Even when we share the same ground, our stories remain distinct, forming the unique contours of who we are. The collection speaks to how presence and absence alike leave their traces; how we are marked not only by what we touch and hold, but also by what slips away, what is lost, or what cannot be grasped. In this way, the negative becomes its own presence: a quiet record of experience.
These vessels ask viewers to reflect on the quiet permanence of what may seem temporary and how a surface, a gesture, or a moment of contact can endure long after it has passed, shaping both clay and self.

Each piece is made by hand in small batches, which means slight variations in shape, texture, and finish are natural and expected. These subtle imperfections are part of the making process and are a reminder of the human hands that shaped them. Each piece is one of a kind.
